NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug, 30 – The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has been ordered by the Supreme Court of Kenya to grant Azimio La Umoja -One Kenya Alliance Presidential Candidate Raila Odinga access to its election results servers.
The commission will now provide access to any servers at the national tallying center that stored or transmitted voting data or information. This is forensically stored information used to capture a copy of the Form 34C which is the total votes cast.
The Supreme Court also granted access to the servers to other petitioners including, Martha Karua, Youth Advocacy for Africa (YAA), Peter Kirika, Khelef Khalifa, George Osewe, Ruth Mumbi, and Grace Kamau.
As part of the orders, the poll body will also be required to provide the petitioners with copies of its technology system security policy comprising but not limited to password policy, password matrix, and owners of system administration password.
Odinga who refuted IEBC’s claims that their systems were impenetrable will also be granted access to information on the system users and levels of access, workflow chats for identification, tallying, transmission, and posting of portals.
Other orders by the court include granting Odinga access to ballot boxes for various polling stations.
The boxes will be subject to scrutiny where after opening the casted ballots will be recounted.
The polling stations in question include Jomvi, Mikindani, and Ministry of Water Tanks Polling Stations,Mvita, Majengo, and Mvita Primary Schools in Mombasa County.
Also, Tinderet CONMO, Nandi Hills, and Sinendeti Primary School in Nandi, Belgut, Kapsuser, and Chepkutum Primary Schools in Kericho County and Jarok, Gathanji, and Kiheo Primary School Polling in Nyandarua County.
The access to the ballot boxes will be under strict supervision by the IEBC. The is expected to allow the petitioners to prove their allegations regarding election malpractice.
