NAIROBI, Kenya, Sept 6- Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and his FORD Kenya counterpart Moses Wetangula have taken nomination papers for National Assembly Speaker’s post, setting stage for a duel between Kenya Kwanza and Azimio coalation.
Wetangula is however seen to be having an upper hand due to the numbers of legislators allied to the President -elect William Ruto’s coalation.
“Persons interested in the two positions have untilĀ Wednesday 7th September at 12:30 pm to collect nomination papers and to return the completed nomination forms on the same day between 2:30 pm to 8:30 pm,” a statement posted on the Parliament of Kenya social media page read in part.
Wetangula was nominated by the Kenya Kwanza coalation as part of pre-election deal.
“We have agreed that Wetangula will be the speaker of the Nationals Assembly where we expect him to leverage his mastery of English to serve MPs. We have agreed in unison,” DP-elect Rigathi Gachagua said in a past event in Bungoma County.
It is not yet clear whether Musyoka will be flying the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance flag.
The former Vice President performed exemplary well by delivering majority of cast votes from Ukambani region to Raila Odinga.
Others who have also taken the forms for the two positions are Noah Winja, Jared Oluoch Oundo, Isaac Aluoch Polo, Farah Maalim and Robert Gichimu Githinji.
President Uhuru Kenyatta has since gazetted the first sitting of the Senate and National Assemblies to be held on Thursday.
Wetangula is expected to resign as Senator for Bungoma, paving way for a by-election.
