NAIROBI, Kenya, Sept, 8 – Parliament is set to commence its inaugural sittings after the conclusion of the August 9 General Elections as well as the end of the Supreme Court hearing on the presidential election petition that saw the apex court unanimously uphold the win of United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate William Ruto’s win as President-elect.
Already, political parties have forwarded the lists of politicians slated to be nominated to the National Assembly and Senate.
This compromises longtime politicians, many party loyalists as well as political newcomers.
Notably on the lists include politicians such as UDA’s Secretary General Veronicah Maina who will be in the senate and Orange Democratic Movement party chairman John Mbadi who will be in the National Assembly.
Staunch Jubilee member and Uhuru Kenyatta loyalist Sabina Chege has also been nominated to parliament.
They will be sworn in on Thursday at Parliament Buildings.
In the National Assembly, the Orange party has also nominated, Irene Nyakerio Mayaka, Umulkheir Harun Mohammed who will represent the youth.
UDA politicians nominated to the National Assembly include, Jackson Kipkemoi Kosgei, Teresia Wanjiru Mwangi, Abdisirat Khalif Ali, Dorothy Muthoni Ikiara and Joseph Wainaina Iraya.
Amani National Congress nominated Joseph Hamisi Denar.
United Democratic Movement nominated Suleka Hulbale Harun.
Meanwhile due to an interim court order restraining Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) from allocating the seat, Wiper will have t wait to learn its fate on the slot.
In the Senate, UDA nominated Roselinda Soipan Tuya, Miraj Abdillahi Abdulrahman, Gloria Magoma Orwoba, Joyce Chepkoech Korir, Nyamu Karen Njeri, Peris Pesi Tobiko, Maureen Tabitha Mutinda and George Mungai Mbugua who will represent persons with disability.
ODM meanwhile nominated, Catherine Muyeka Mumma, Beatrice Akinyi Oyomo, Hamida Ali Kibwana, Betty Batuli Montet, Beth Kalunda Syengo, and Hezena M. Lemaletian who will represent the youth as Crystal Kagehi Asige will represent persons with disability.
Margaret Jepkoech Kamar has been nominated by the Jubilee party.
UDM nominated Mariam Sheikh Omar and Raphael Chimera Mwinzagu who will represent the youth.
Shakila Abdalla Mohamed, the Wiper secretary general was also nominated by her party.
