NAIROBI, Kenya, Sept, 11- Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja during an impromptu visit to the Mama Lucy Kibaki hospital has apologized to the people of Nairobi over ‘poor delivery of services’ at the institution pledging to restore sanity in the country’s capital.

The hospital has over the years made headlines for all the wrong reasons with the governor promising to right the wrongs and serve the citizens as envisaged by the laws of the land.

“First of all on behalf of the government of Nairobi I want to apologize to the people of Nairobi, I think we have not been serving you well….there is a lot that is left to be desired here,” he said.

While visiting the hospital, Sakaja was saddened by the facility’s current state, particularly after observing mothers that have just given birth being forced to share beds.

He was also saddened after meeting one mother who also gave birth and being forced to sit on the hospital’s waiting bench due to a lack of adequate beds.

“We are finding mothers sharing beds after giving birth we are out of capacity here, there is a need for expansion and need for other facilities to be working,”

The county government has also ordered the release of patients being held due to unpaid medical bills.

“There are those who have been discharged and are not able to be released, I have ordered that they all be released from the hospital, We will get the account of how many they are, and I will pay for them,” said Sakaja.

Locals have called on the government to kick off an ambitious project to improve the state of the hospital that often lacks adequate medicine, staff, and basic amenities.

The hospital which has a staff of 450 serves at least 1,200 patients every day.
