NAIROBI, Kenya, Sept, 12 – The Judiciary has labeled an onslaught of abuse and attacks meted towards judges of the Supreme Court of Kenya as sponsored further calling on perpetrators to cease forthwith.
The Judiciary in a statement said that the attacks were uncalled for since the judges worked as a cohesive unit to issue a unanimous verdict on the contentious Presidential election petition.
“The persons sponsoring and executing the attacks on social media to disparage the court are advised to desist forthwith,” read a section of the statement.
The Judges upheld United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate William Ruto’s win.
The Supreme Court will issue a much more comprehensive judgment on the verdict 21 days after the initial ruling.
“There is a legal provision of 21 days following the reading of the short version of the judgment which will shed light and provide clarity on the grounds and rationale of the Court,”
They further refuted claims that some judges have resigned from the posts following the issuance of the ruling.
“The court has seven judges who are independent and highly respectful of each other as equals. A unanimous judgment is a collective decision made by the court and not by an individual.”
The fake news besmirching the integrity of the judges has been spread across social media since the verdict was issued.
