NAIROBI,Kenya, Sept, 12 – President-Elect William Ruto has chosen a green flag, a presidential standard that will now henceforth identify his tenure in office.
The flag will dot his vehicle and all the places he visits upon his swearing in on Tuesday at the Moi International Sports Center, Kasarani In Nairobi county.
According to presidential protocols,a presidential standard is an official flag of the President, displayed alongside the national flag where the President is and pulled down as soon as he leaves.
The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) said that the design, colour of the flag is chosen by the president-elect upon settling on his top preference.
“We want a bit of mystery, let’s allow the fifth President come and unveil his standard here. I don’t know whether he’d want it described today,” said outgoing Interior PS Dr. Karanja Kibicho who inspected the stadium ahead of Tuesday’s inauguration.
Even as Kenyans wait for the big day to glance at the green flag in its entirety, it has become apparent that it will contain two crossed spears and a shield bearing the colours of the national flag.
It is believed that the flag may also contain an image of a wheelbarrow, the official symbol of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.
Process of Selecting A presidential Standard (Flag)
The president-elect is consulted on his preference then the KDF come up with the final design having considered his color and other features to appear on the final product.

This was considered an homage to his late father, the country’s founding president Mzee Jomo Kenyatta.
President Mwai Kibaki’s standard was white in colour and bore two olive branches.
The country’s third president, Daniel Moi’s standard was green with a red cockerel while the country’s founding president Jomo Kenyatta was blue with a yellow cockerel which was the Kenya African National Union (KANU)’s party symbol.
