NAIROBI, Kenya, Sept, 13 – Kenya Airways has announced the demise of a passenger who is said to have developed breathing difficulties Wednesday evening.
The passenger was boarding KQ612 which was scheduled to depart for Mombasa at 1900hrs.
“The passenger was pronounced dead by medical personnel at JKIA while the aircraft was still on groud,” read a section of the statement by KQ.
JKIA Health and Security officials are addressing the matter.
“We convey our deepest condolences to the daily and friends of the deceased during this difficult time,”
Earlier this month, Kenya Airways confirmed a passenger aboard one of its flights from Nairobi to New York died.
This is the third such passenger to be reported dead in a span of two weeks.
The carrier, popularly known as KQ, said the unnamed passenger passed away on September 2, 2022, at around 6.30 am.
“A passenger was found to be unresponsive,” KQ said.
“Upon further medical examination, personnel confirmed that the passenger had passed away. The flight had departed Nairobi per schedule on Thursday, September 1 at 11.55 pm.”
The incident happened aboard flight KQ002.
The passenger who died aboard one of its flights from New York to Nairobi last week was a dual citizen of the United States and Kenya.
Authorities identified him as Peterson Njuguna Mwangi aged 66 of Lewisburg Pennsylvania.
The KQ plane was supposed to arrive at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) at 10:32 am on Monday, August 22 but due to the incident and consequent rerouting, it touched down in Nairobi a few minutes past 7 pm.
A medical emergency forced the plane pilots to divert the plane to Casablanca, Morocco.
