KIAMBU, Kenya, Sept, 26 – Security agencies and the national construction authority are investigating the cause of a collapsed building in Kiambu that left three dead and several others injured.
The six-storey building collapsed Monday morning in Kirigit area, Kiambu County.
According to preliminary reports, the building collapsed on a residential house leaving scores trapped.
Search and rescue were quickly called to the scene.
Police said construction workers had just arrived a the site when the building collapsed at around 0600hrs.
Greed and lack of proper supervision by contractors has been blamed for the incident.
“We are now focused on rescuing the victims and will deal with the rest later,” said Kiambu head of DCI Richard Mwaura.
“Devastating News This Morning!I was driving to the office this morning, and was diverted to the site of a building under construction that collapsed at Kirigiti in Kiambu Town,” said Governor wamatangi.
The site has since been cordoned off by the national police service and defense forces as search and rescue continues.
