NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 14 – The Lands court will on Wednesday, November 16, hand out its sentence to Zachary Barasa of Siuma Auctioneers following the demolition of a Sh80 million house in Westlands, Nairobi despite a court order.
Justice Oscar Angote found that Barasa disobeyed court orders when a mob allegedly hired by the company demolished and moved house items belonging to Niraj Shah and his wife Avani Shah.
If found guilty, Barasa may be jailed for two years.
Barasa was arrested last week after it emerged that his company was behind the demolition of the couple’s home. He was arraigned in court and was released on a Sh200,000 bail.
He is said to have been acting on behalf of Lariak Properties whose directors are directors Samuel K. Chepkwony, John Kamaiyoa Rotich, Joel Kiplangat and Nathaniel Kipkemboi Barmasai.
Barmasai was arrested in Eldoret on Sunday, November 13. His fellow directors have since been summoned by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Land Fraud Unit.
