NAIROBI, Nov 17 -Auctioneer Zachary Baraza today failed to show up in court for his sentencing after he was found in contempt of court.
His lawyers led by Ndegwa Njiru told the court that Baraza had been taken ill and brought medical records to prove the claim.
Baraza was brought to court last week where he was found to have disobeyed a court order that had been issued against the demolition of a house belonging to an Asian couple.
Niraj and Avani Shah said that a mob of more than 25 men descended on their property armed with a court order and gave them 30 minutes to vacate.
The mob then went ahead to bring down the house which is valued at Sh80 million with Baraza being the man behind the demolition. He was acting on behalf of Lariak Properties.
He was taken to court on November 4 and released on a Sh200,000 bail after the judge refused to grant police the 14 days, they were seeking to complete investigations into the matter.
His lawyer argued that the court had no powers to hear and determine the case. The court will rule over the matter on Friday next week.
