BUNGOMA, Kenya, Dec 9 – Wafula Wakoli has been elected Bungoma Senator, getting 64,009 votes in the race to replace National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula.
His win was announced by the County Returning Officer Grace Rono at the County tallying centre at the Mabanga Agricultural Training Center in Kabuchai.
Wakoli beat his close competitors; former Bumula MP Mwambu Mabonga of UDA who had 45,682 votes and former Kanduyi MP Wafula Wamunyinyi of DAP-K who got 22,296 votes.
Others in the race were Elias Barasa, Enoch Makokha, Julius Masinde, Wekesa Munoko, Simiyu Busolo, Wafula Wanjala, Barasa Wanyonyi and Robert Sifuna.
Wakoli, who was born in June 1983, worked as a Personal Assistant (PA) to Wentangula until September 2022 when he announced his candidature which was overwhelmingly supported by Wetangula.
He attended St Peter Mumias Primary School before proceeding to Musingu High School for his secondary education.
He later joined Egerton University for a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. After finishing his studies, Wakoli was employed as a Board of Management teacher at the Bungoma High School and Baptist Secondary School.
He was employed by the Teachers Service Commission in 2011 and posted to Friends Milima Secondary School where he worked until 2013 when he quit to become Wetangula’s PA.
