NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 14 – A court is on Wednesday, December 14 set to rule in a case where a woman who was presented before court for assault claimed she was a victim too.
The woman was presented in court Tuesday to face charges of assaulting her boyfriend who is in a comma in hospital.
Both are rally drivers and lovers.
The identity of the woman who is a public figure cannot be made public after Chief Magistrate Benard Ochoi ordered the media not to reveal the names of the couple pending the ruling Wednesday, December 13.
Detectives are asking the court to detain the woman for 14 days pending further probe as the man is in critical condition in the high dependence unit in Nairobi.
The incident happened in their house in Kilimani area.
The court was informed the man sustained a deep cut on his ankle allegedly inflicted by the woman.
Police told the court she was arrested Monday night at their apartment after the boyfriend’s brother made a report of an assault to the police.
The court heard that during the arrest the police found a lot of blood in the house and broken glasses.
Through her lawyers, the woman said she is a victim and claimed that the man hurt himself when he was attacking her.
She further asked the court to protect her from the media coverage saying under the Victims Act she is a victim.
The lawyer told the court that until investigations are over no one really knows who the victim is since the intended complainant is still unconscious and he can’t record a statement.
The family of the boyfriend, who is a top rally driver, is appealing for blood donation as he remains admitted at a Nairobi hospital.
