NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 14 – Rally driver Maxine Wahome was on Wednesday, December 14, released on an Sh100,000 cash bail after she was arraigned for the assault of her rally driver boyfriend Asad Khan.

Khan is in critical condition at the ICU of a Nairobi hospital after the incident which occurred at an apartment the two share in Kilimani.

Wahome was arrested on Monday night and was arraigned in court on Tuesday where she sought to have the case heard in camera and their identities withheld, saying that she was a victim of an assault by Khan and needed protection.

Chief Magistrate Bernard Ochoi rejected the application saying it was not known who was the aggressor between the two, since Khan is in ICU and cannot give an account of the events.

Police had asked the court to detain Wahome for 14 days to allow them to conclude investigations into the incident which left Khan badly wounded and unconscious.

While making the ruling Mr Ochoi, said that the police did not demonstrate clearly why they needed Wahome to be in custody as they continued with investigations.

Wahome was directed to appear before the Kilimani Police Station every Tuesday and to cooperate with detectives investigating the matter.

Khan’s family has appealed to Kenyans to donate blood for their kin who is at the High Dependency Unit of the said hospital.
