KISII, Kenya, Dec 16 – Health services across Kisii County health facilities may be disrupted after doctors gave notice to go on strike over delayed pay.
Doctors’ union officials have since told County governor Simba Arati that going into the future industrial strikes are going to be regular due to constant delays of salaries.
In a statement, the medics lamented a two-month delay in their perks even after the County boss said that they will be getting paid by the 5th of each month.
Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union, KMPDU, Nyanza branch Secretary General, Dr Aggrey Orwenyo said they would walk out by Monday if no payment is made.
“We have decided as members of the Kenya Medical Pharmacists and Dentists Union to proceed to stay out of work until you attend to our financial needs,” said Orwenyo.
He added that the failure to pay them is a reason enough to disrupt health services in the county.
Orwenyo told governor Arati to up his game in dealing with crises in health services.
“This is a critical sector with little time for false promises, we are not calling for industrial strikes because we like them, we want to work but this can happen in an environment where payment of staff is prompt,” stated Orwenyo.
