GARISSA, Kenya, Dec 21 – A Police Officer and a civilian were killed on Wednesday morning, December 21, after suspected Al Shabaab militants attacked a Police Vehicle.
The vehicle which belongs to the Galmagalla Police Station in Bura East was headed to Garissa when it was attacked.
Mr Thomas Bett, area Deputy County Commissioner said the incident happened about six kilometres from a Chinese construction site on the LAPSSET project
The vehicle is said to have missed an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted on the road and the attackers, attacked it using a Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG).
They then shot at the vehicle which led to the death of the officer and the civilian, another officer is nursing injuries in a hospital.
Other vehicle occupants are said to have escaped the attack and their whereabouts remain unknown. The attackers then set the car ablaze partially damaging it before escaping.
The North Eastern Police George Seda, said that more officers had been deployed to the area of the attack to rescue those who escaped the attack.
