NAROK, Kenya, Jan 11 – A Narok man has been jailed for life by a Narok Court after he pleaded guilty to defiling and getting married to a ten-year-old girl.

Saigulu Ololosereka,50, was charged with two counts: marrying and defiling the ten-year-old in 2019.

Ololosereka who appeared before Narok Senior Resident Magistrate Phyllis Shinyanda said that he had been given the minor by her parents as a bride, with the judge noting that he showed no remorse for his actions.

In her judgement, she said that he had been warned of the consequences of pleading guilty to the two charges but he chose to stick with his decision.

She empathised with the victim saying that for the three years that she lived with the man she must have undergone a very hard time, adding that she had undergone Female Genital Mutilation before she was married off and had to undergo a caesarean section when she delivered.

Ololosereka was sentenced to life imprisonment for the first count of defilement and three years for the second count of early marriage, with the sentences running concurrently.

He has 14 days to file an appeal.
