NAIROBI Kenya, May 5. President William Ruto has told the new Kenya Coast Guard boss to serve with zeal and protect the country’s territorial waters.
The President said the new Director General of the Kenya Coast Guard, Bruno Shioso, was assuming office at a time when maritime security was gaining currency in the world.
“We must strengthen the country’s ability to protect our territorial waters,” said the President on Friday at State House, Nairobi during the swearing-in of Shioso.
“Serve with diligence and observe the Constitution,” the President added.
The KCG is charged with the enforcement of law on security, safety and protection of maritime resources within Kenya’s territorial waters.
Shioso, a former officer attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), was in July 2021 appointed the National Police spokesman.
Until his appointment, Shioso, was attached to United Nations Police (UNPOL) in New York as a team leader of the Serious and Organised Crime Team.
He had earlier served as a county DCI boss and also the former DCI boss Ndegwa Muhoro’s personal assistant.
Shioso has also specialized in transnational organized crime with a bias to their impact to insecurity and conflicts within conflict, post-conflict and fragile regions.
