SAMBURU Kenya May 19 -At least 148 illegal firearms have been recovered in parts of the North Rift in the ongoing “Komesha Uhalifu” security operation.

The operation is spearheaded by the National Police Service in collaboration with the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).

Some of the guns were surrendered by members of the public during a security tour by the Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki on Friday, May 19, in Samburu county.

An Assistant Chief, Charles Lopoda of Mukemar Sub-Location, was interdicted by the CS over livestock theft in his area of jurisdiction after at least 72 heads of cattle were recovered.

The recovered livestock were stolen last by bandits who staged a raid in several villages within Samburu county.

“I want all county commissioners to be on the forefront in every security operation whenever circumstances emerge,” Kindiki said.

The CS revealed that atlaest 31 people have been arrested since the operation was launched.

He warned government officials against abetting banditry in the North Rift region.

Schools damaged by the bandits will now be renovated by the government.
