NAIROBI Kenya May 23 -A tout who allegedly knocked out a Tuktuk operator’s four teeth while forcefully demanding money to allow him pick passengers along Jogoo Road Nairobi was on May 23 charged with grievous harm.
George Oduor is alleged to have attacked James Inda at the Maziwa stage on November 24, 2021 before he went underground.
Oduor was accompanied by another Quivans Okelo who was tracked down and arraigned in February 2022.
Inda was at the stage while waiting for passengers to board his tuktuk when the two touts closed the Tuktuk and chased passengers away.
He then came out to enquire why they were chasing away his customers and they demanded money before he could pick passengers.
The court was told there had been a protracted dispute pitting the Tuktuk operators and the touts over the charges for picking passengers.
The Tuktuk operators had agreed to stop giving money to the touts who claimed ownership of the stage.
Immediately Inda stepped out, he was accosted by one of the touts before his accomplice joined and hit him with a blunt object on the mouth, knocking out his four teeth.
He collected his teeth that had fallen down and proceeded with them to Makongeni police station where he made a report before proceeding to hospital.
After treatment, he returned to the police station and recorded his statement. Medics classified his injuries as grievous harm.
Okello was later traced and arrested in February at the same stage while demanding money from Tuktuk operators and was charged at the same court where he denied the charges.
He was released on a bond of Sh300, 000 and hearing dates were set.
Oduor also on Tuesday denied the charges before Principal Magistrate Hellen Okwani. Okwani set the mention date for July 4 after prosecution counsel Remyngton Mwandawiro informed the court that the prosecution intended to consolidate the cases between Oduor and Okello.
Bail and bond terms for Oduor will be set by the trial court upon the consolidation and in the meantime, he will remain in custody.
