NAIROBI Kenya May 23 -Detectives based in Starehe have launched a manhunt for three suspects who raided a drinking joint in Ruaraka’s Kasabuni area and robbed revelers.

The three suspects who pretended to be beggars and were carrying sacks on their backs entered Reke Marie pub and started begging for food before one of them ordered all revelers to lie down and ransacked their pockets before fleeing.

Police said the three suspects had a firearm and had initially posed as people of unsound mind.

“Those at the pub went on drinking until one of the suspects pulled out a rifle from his sack and ordered everyone to lie down,” the DCI said in a statement.

The revelers lost mobile phones, cash and other valuables as some of them were too drunk to confront the intruders.

Police added that some of the patrons had to beg one of their drinking partners who was too drunk and had started insulting the suspects.

This prompted the suspects to fire two rounds in the air attracting the attention of police officers on patrol, who immediately rushed to the scene.

However, by the time of their arrival, the thugs had vanished into darkness.

The officers managed to recover two empty cartridges from the scene.

Police are pursuing leads into the whereabouts of the thugs who are still at large.

“The spent cartridges have since been sent to the DCI National Forensic Laboratory for scientific analysis by ballistic experts,” DCI added.
