NAIROBI Kenya July 3 -Two robbery suspects who were recently released from jail were on Monday July 4 charged with two other counts of robbery with violence.
Fredrick Otieno Owendo and Kelvin Njani were charged at the Makadara Law Courts after they were accused of robbing two pedestrians in Njiru, Nairobi on June 26.
In the first count, the two are accused of violently robbing Monica Mutio of Sh2,250, a mobile phone worth Sh32,000, a phone charger and a bag while armed with knives.
According to the prosecution, the duo, jointly with others still at large, beat up the victims during the robbery.
They were also charged with robbing businessman John Okello of Sh7,200 and a mobile phone worth Sh35,000 the same day.
During the robbery, they also assaulted Okello’s wife, Irene Wayua, as she attempted to rescue her husband. Consequently, they were also charged with assault causing actual bodily harm.
The prosecution said Okello was walking home at around 10pm when he was stopped by two men armed with knives.
Immediately he stopped, other men emerged from darkness and started assaulting him before they robbed him.
While lying down where he was being beaten, his wife coincidentally found him on her way to a shop and confronted the thugs urging them to stop and spare her husband.
The suspects grabbed and floured her before they assaulted her. They then left after ransacking both and stealing from both.
Three days later, the same accused persons confronted Ms Mution within Kirima area in Njiru while on her way to her place of business.
They robbed her of her belongings and stabbed her with a knife. She went back home and later sought treatment before she reported the matter to the police.
Owendo and Njani denied the charges before Principal Magistrate Lewis Gatheru and were released on a bond of Sh300, 000.
