A Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldier was shot and injured by gunmen believed to be bandits in an ambush in Samburu.
Officials said the incident happened on July 3 in Pura area.
The victim is attached to the new Kurkur military camp and was on normal patrol on the grading of the murram road leading to the new proposed camp at Loleria in Samburu Central when he and other personnel were ambushed by armed bandits.
A fierce shootout ensued and in the process one soldier was shot on the right leg, officials said.
He was rushed to Samburu County referral hospital and later airlifted to Nairobi.
The attackers managed to escape from the scene and no arrest has been made so far.
Gunmen looking for animals roam in the area leaving a trail of destruction.
This has forced authorities to launch operations to mop up illegal guns.
This has also led to the creation of such military camps in the area to address the rate of insecurity.
Dozens of firearms have been recovered in the exercise in the county and neigbouring ones.
