NAIROBI Kenya July 11 -The Federation of Drivers and Conductors in Kenya (FEDCO), a body representing drivers and conductors in Kenya, has canceled the Wednesday July 12 scheduled strike after successful negotiations with the Ministry of Transport.
“As a result of this agreement, FEDCO is pleased to announce that all planned strike actions have been suspended indefinitely. This decision reflects the collective belief in the power of dialogue and negotiation to effect positive change,” the federation said.
According to the officials, the breakthrough agreement comes after a series of constructive dialogues and discussions between the federation and the ministry, considering the concerns and grievances of the informal sector workers in the transportation industry.
Offivials further said the negotiated agreement addresses several key concerns raised by the drivers and conductors, including fair remuneration, improved working conditions, and increased support for healthcare and social security.
“FECO would like to express its sincere gratitude to the Ministry of Transport for their unwavering commitment to understanding and acknowledging the plight of drivers and conductors,” the federation officials said.
“By lending a compassionate ear and actively engaging in negotiations, the government has demonstrated its dedication to the welfare of the informal sector workers,” they added.
