Police records indicate there has been an increase in killings across the country with some suspected to be ritual killings. Most of the victims have been women.
On Saturday, a section of women staged protests in major towns in the country to condemn what they termed as femicide, and called the on authorities to address the killings.
Police records also indicate there have been killings perpetrated by men who are in family or intimate partner relationships.
On Friday, for example, a 27-year-old man was arrested for allegedly stabbing his wife at her parents’ home in Kipsolu, Kericho County over a marital dispute.
The suspect had travelled from Borborwet to his wife’s home to sort out their domestic issues.
The deceased woman identified as Lonah Chepkemoi, 27 had left the suspect’s home to her home after a domestic disagreement, police and her family said.
This forced the suspect to follow the now deceased woman to her parents’ home to sort out their domestic issues.
In the process, a quarrel broke out between them and the man picked a knife and stabbed Chepkemoi on the left lateral side of the neck.
Among the women who have been killed in the recent past include socialite Starlet Wahu Mwangi who is believed to have been murdered by John Matara who is in custody.
Matara had rented a short-term apartment in the area and took Wahu, who he met on a dating site, into the house for a night out.
Another victim is Rita Waeni Muendo who was killed at an AirBnB in Roysambu on January 13.
