MAKUENI Kenya March 30 -An Administration Police (AP) officer attached to the Critical Infrastructure Police Unit (CIPU) in Mbooni West, Makueni County was shot dead by his colleague in unclear circumstances on Friday night.
Constable Hassan Ahmed was shot in the chest by his colleague Constable Anthony Mariapei as they were on duty guarding the office of Mbooni West Deputy County Commissioner.
Another police officer manning the report office at Mbooni Police Station, which is about 40 metres away from the DCC’s office, heard the gunshots, alerting other officers who rushed to the scene.
“They found a police officer in APS uniform and a G3 rifle beside him squatting. On trying to talk to him, it was realized that the officer was bleeding on the left side of the ribs,” police said.
On further examination, it was discovered that he had been shot by use of a firearm and he was dead.
The officer later presented himself at Mbooni Police Station where he reportedly admitted to shooting his colleague.
“He surrendered at Mbooni police station claiming that he had shot APC Hassan Ahmed using G3 rifle earlier issued to him,” the local police commander added.
The commander said the motive of the murder was yet to be established, adding that the suspect had been placed in custody.
“Both G3 rifles loaded with 18 and 20 rounds issued to both the accused and deceased officers respectively, have been detained as exhibits pending ballistic examinations,” a police report seen by Shahidi News reads.
The deceased’s body was later moved to Mbooni West Sub-County Referral Hospital mortuary pending post-mortem.
The shooting came just hours after a 30-year-old officer stationed at the Kiwanja Police Post in Kahawa West, Nairobi County was hacked to death by her husband following an alleged altercation in Webuye, Bungoma County.
The deceased, Constable Tiffany Wanyonyi who was off-duty, and her husband, 40-year-old Jackson Oloitele, had travelled upcountry to attend the funeral of her late grandmother who was laid to rest at Misemwa village on Thursday.
“The deceased’s body was found lying dead on the bed with several deep cuts on the neck and multiple injuries on the head, suspected to have been inflicted by a sharp object. A panga suspected to be the murder weapon was recovered from the scene,” a police reads.
The husband, Oloitele, later surrendered himself to the police following the incident.
